Description from the seller
Prestigious and monumental box, released in 1993, with only 150 copies. This one is number 031, written on a cloth tape and sewn at the back of the box. The number is also inscribed on the colophon booklet with Fukuda's stamp.
Kazuhiko Fukuda supervised and directed this edition; he wrote all the notes in the booklet, providing a complete explanation of each work and commentaries on each plate (18 pages, paginated).
The Red Book: about a precious scroll released at the beginning of the Muromachi Era (1336-1573), so the work is from the 14th century. This is a unique masterpiece and a complete work consisting of 12 scenes.
The stamp and the signing on the last plate are 'Fujiwara no Mitsuniyu.' Fukuda thinks that it's probably the son of Fujiwara Yukimitsu, the founder of Tosa School, one of the most famous schools of Shunga (Korin Ogata and others).
The title given by Fukuda is 'Suetsumuhana.' This scroll inspired many painters afterward; it is a major work.
You will note that the stamp is a royal stamp, his father was one of the official painters in the Imperial court (Lord Echizen).
The Yellow Book: author Furuyama Moroshige, a pupil of the master Moronobu, active in the 17th century at the beginning of the Edo Era. A major painter, with the title given by the author as 'Oborotsukiyo.' Note that the original title has been lost, and Moroshige assigned this name afterward.
Also, a complete work of 12 scenes like the original scroll.
Each plate measures 36.5 x 25.8 cm. The book is a leporello (opened in an accordion fold) called Ohrion in Japanese language, with a total open length of 4 meters and 37 centimeters. The two lengths are Gilty, and the width includes the brown fabric that serves as the binding.
The three books are Near Mint, opened one time.
The box, covered with natural linen, has slight rust stains on the outside and inside (photos), as well as some on the cloth tape at the back.
It remains a rarity; the box weighs over 6 kg (the total parcel will be over 7 kg). For your information, I sent a similar parcel to the USA last week, which cost €142 without insurance. I sent it with full protections and insurance included.
