Description from the seller
Port View
School: Catalan School (20th century)
Author: Josep Cruañas
Style: Contemporary Realism
Technique: Gouache on paper
Josep Cruañas (20th century) was a prominent Catalan painter known for his urban and marine landscapes, characterized by atmospheric subtlety and mastery of color. His work often combines precise observation of reality with a very personal luminist sensitivity.
The composition shows a peaceful port scene where several small boats rest on the dock. In the background, a group of ochre and bluish buildings, partially blurred, adds depth and serenity to the scene. The green mass of the mountain rising behind the structures provides chromatic balance and emphasizes the humid atmosphere typical of the coastal landscapes depicted by Cruañas. The gouache technique allows for very characteristic transparency and overlay effects, with controlled brushstrokes and a soft treatment of the water, conveying calm and silence.
The frame is made of wood moldings in an aged silver finish, with sober and contemporary lines. It features a wide, clear passepartout that enhances the artwork and adds brightness.
The frame comes as a gift. It may be damaged during transport even if it is properly packaged.
