El naufragio, an oil on canvas by the Catalan Impressionist School (19th century), Europe, sold with frame.
Description from the seller
The Shipwreck
School: Catalan Impressionist (19th century)
Style: Impressionism
Technique: oil on canvas
Magnificent maritime scene with strong Catalan impressionist influence, depicting a dramatic moment at high seas. In the composition, we observe a sailboat occupied by two sailors fighting against the waves as a storm looms on the horizon. The artist captures with great precision the force of the wind and the dynamism of the waves, which rise with greenish and foamy tones.
The sky, vast and dominated by dense, contrasting clouds, adds an atmosphere of tension and drama characteristic of 19th-century maritime painting. The light, diffuse yet penetrating, highlights the movement of the vessel and the effort of its crew. In the foreground, some seabirds fly over the choppy waters, reinforcing the naturalistic and vibrant character of the scene.
The work is presented in a carved wooden frame, gilded with an aged patina and inner edges in dark tones that add depth and elegance. Its classic and sturdy design enhances the composition and complements the maritime aesthetic of the painting. The frame is included as a gift. It may sustain damage during transport, even with proper packaging.
Measurements: 73 x 93 cm
Measurements with frame: 92 x 113 cm
Observations: Presents minor flaws and restorations.
