Artist biography
Lluís Gallart i Garcia (Calella, September 22, 1922 – Barcelona, November 17, 1985) was a Catalan painter, specializing in figurative painting, more specifically charcoal nudes. His aesthetic is markedly classical, with some incursions into realism.
Much of his work is preserved in the Museo-Archivo de Calella, which on the first floor features an art gallery with more than two hundred of his works, inaugurated in 1991, where oils and figurative drawings are exhibited on a rotating basis.
He has held numerous exhibitions with good critical reception, and his works are scattered across various European cities, in museums and private collections. As a portraitist, he created portraits of figures such as Enric Borràs, Pau Casals, and Picasso, among others.
In Calella, there is a square named after it, located in Riera de los Frailes. The square has a pergola and a basketball court, and public events are held there.
