Haven In zicht "Volendam", an oil painting from the Netherlands in the 1930–1940 period, sold with frame.
Description from the seller
Frits Meijer (Netherlands, 20th century) – 'Volendammer botters VD 6 and VD 4' – oil on canvas – circa 1940s – Canvas 100×50 cm – Frame 120×70 cm
Description
Groot maritime painting by Frits Meijer, probably created in the 1940s, derived from the classic craquelé and the warm, yellowed varnish layer that are characteristic of works from this period.
The presentation shows two historic Volendam fishing boats, recognizable by their fishing numbers:
VD 6 – fishing ship number 6 from Volendam
VD 4 – fishing ship number 4 from Volendam
VD is the official Dutch fishing code for Volendam. The numbers refer to real, registered fishing vessels, making the painting especially appealing to collectors of maritime art and Volendammer history.
The fabric has an impressive size of 100 × 50 cm and is supplied in a stylish frame of 120 × 70 cm, giving the entire piece a strong decorative appearance.
Meijer's distinctive style is clearly visible: a calm sea, warm color transitions, and a realistic depiction of traditional Dutch fishing boats.
