Description from the seller

A lovely six-panel hina'byôbu 雛屏風 (doll-festival folding screen) featuring an idyllic landscape painted in the Kanô School style on heavily oxidised silver leaf.

Showcasing an ancient pine tree 松 (matsu) and large Japanese apricot tree梅 (ume) with red blossoms, along the edge of a river.

Signed and sealed in the lower right corner.

Executed in colour and ink on silver leaf with a beautifully aged patina, and set within a black lacquered wooden frame.

Period: Japan – Second half of the Edo period (18th to first half 19th century)

Dimensions:
Total width: 121.6 cm (2 × 20.6 cm, 4 × 19.6 cm), Height: 42 cm

In good condition considering its age, with traces of wear consistent with age and several restorations on both sides, including some loss of paint and repapering of the reverse. Please refer to the photos for a clear impression of the condition.

Due to its small size and light weight, the screen is suitable for mounting flat on a wall and displaying as a single artwork.

When shipped, we will include a certificate of authenticity.
