Hervé Di Rosa's Déjeuner fantôme, a 2023 contemporary mixed-media work, hand-signed, limited edition, 80 by 100 cm, 0.8 kg, from France, in excellent condition and sold by Galerie.
Description from the seller
Pigment impression taken from the original work.
Since its creation in 1863, Edouard Manet's 'Le Déjeuner sur l’herbe' has continuously provoked numerous criticisms, observations, interpretations, inspirations, and passions.
Provocative, bold, even brutal for its time, this work, initially controversial, still causes a lot of paint to flow but also a lot of ink.
Hervé Di Rosa, with regard to Manet, has shaken up the codes of painting. The artist, originally from Sète and born in 1959, is indeed one of the major founders of Figuration.
Free
With his Ghostly Lunch, Hervé Di Rosa offers a reinterpretation of the original work, a shift in perspective. He creates a raw and sensual piece. Blending the fantastic with romanticism, shifting from one color to another, he takes the viewer into his universe: a narrative world with multiple facets, a pictorial language where extraordinary characters converse with each other.
Created for a collective project bringing together 34 artists in the 1990s, it was exhibited for the first time in 1994 at the CRAC in Sète, then in Paris, and later at the musée de l’Encan in La Rochelle.
