Description from the seller
“Echoes at Low Tide” is a visual artwork by Raquel Pellicano that stages a silent encounter between sound and absence. A lone grand piano stands at the edge of the water, partially embraced by the shoreline, as if abandoned mid-thought. Around it, seabirds glide through a dense, mist-laden sky, their movement contrasting with the stillness of the instrument.
The monochrome palette intensifies the melancholic calm of the scene. The piano, an object designed for resonance, remains unheard. The shoreline stretches into fog, dissolving architecture and distance, creating a landscape where memory replaces sound.
Artist’s Statement
This piece reflects on the persistence of expression even when the conditions for it disappear. I was drawn to the image of a piano placed where music cannot easily exist, exposed to tide, weather and silence. It becomes a symbol of what remains when creation is stripped of its audience and function.
The birds suggest fleeting motion, while the piano anchors the image in stillness. Together, they form a quiet dialogue between presence and disappearance. The viewer is invited to imagine the sound that is no longer played, and to listen instead to the space it leaves behind.
