AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Prosper de Wit, commonly known as Pros, was a Belgian artist born in Antwerp in 1860 and died in Schaarbeek in 1947 (Prosper Joseph Pierre de Wit). He studied at the Academy in Antwerp under H. De Braekeleer. He favored, among other subjects, interiors, landscapes, and cityscapes. He attributed significant importance to color and light variations and painted poetic, atmospheric canvases. His work from the 1880s is characterized by a rather paste-like application of paint combined with the use of deep, saturated colors. These colors are as disconnected from reality as those of the early Fauves. In 1883, he was a co-founder of the circle 'Als ik Kan' in Antwerp. His work is held in museums in Antwerp and Liège. Mentioned in BAS I. (PIRON).
