Description from the seller
*The lighter is for comparison. I don't smoke, so the smell doesn't transfer to the artwork.
Title: Birthday
Limited edition 59/150
Hand sign
2019
This piece depicts Nishikigoi carp swimming in circles in a pond.
They're swimming as if celebrating their birthday.
This is one of Kunio Kaneko's larger works.
Kunio Kaneko (1949-)
Under the concept of "Neo Japan Art," he creates works that aim to blend tradition and modernity.
He uses traditional Japanese woodblock printing techniques (mokuhanga) and maintains the time-honored method of printing with a tool called a "baren," which is rubbed by hand.
However, his motifs and color palette go beyond classic and traditional ones; he incorporates contemporary and modern colors, textures, and sensibilities.
The use of gold and silver foil adds contrast and elegance to the work.
The work has a modern feel, using the finest traditional Japanese woodblock printing techniques.
This makes the work popular with many international fans and its style is easily accessible.
It also makes a great gift for friends who love Japanese art.
Only 100 to 150 woodblock prints can be made, making them extremely rare.
Size: Overall: 58cm x 39cm
Picture: 52cm x 33cm
