Porcelain vase Montagne au printemps sur la vallée d’Arita by Fujii Shumei (1936–2017), dating to 1960–1970, with a long neck, blue and white gradient and konoha‑gihō leaf-impression decoration, height 29 cm and diameter 12 cm, from Arita, Japan, in unused condition and shipped from the EU with no customs for EU buyers.
Description from the seller
Vase: Mountain in spring over the Arita valley.
Porcelain vase by Fujii Shumei, from a European collection. Shipping from the European Union: no customs fees for buyers located within the EU.
This tall-necked vase depicts a springtime view of the mountains and valley of Arita. The decoration is built in shades of blue: darker at the base, gradually lightening towards the top, which is white and luminous, evoking the morning mist in spring.
Trees and wooded slopes are created using konoha‑gihō, the artist's signature technique involving applying real leaves onto porcelain before firing, allowing their veins to show through. The layering creates a natural and subtle depth.
The transition from blue to white enhances the impression of a valley enveloped in light and spring mist.

Vase: Mountain in Spring over the Arita Valley
Porcelain vase by Fujii Shumei from a European collection. Shipped from within the European Union, meaning no customs charges for EU buyers.
The long-necked vase depicts a spring landscape of the Arita mountains and valley. The decoration is built up in a gradient of blues, dark at the base and gradually fading into a bright white top section, evoking morning spring haze over the valley.
The forested slopes are created using konoha‑gihō, the artist’s signature method in which real leaves are applied to the porcelain before firing, leaving delicate vein patterns. Layering these impressions creates natural depth and subtle atmospheric perspective.
The fading blue-to-white transition enhances the impression of rising spring light.
