Vittorio Matino's work is representative and of superior quality (Analytical Painting), known for his experimentation with color and tones.
Internationally recognized artist, Matino has exhibited in major exhibitions in Italy, Europe — particularly in France — and the United States. Among his numerous solo shows, the 2004 exhibition at the Galleria dello Scudo in Verona stands out, marking a moment of synthesis and reinterpretation of his poetic vision.
In the seventies, Matino abandoned teaching and moved to Milan, a city that, along with frequent stays in Paris, became a decisive crossroads for his artistic maturation. It was during this period that his painting shifted from figuration to an abstract language, where chromatic matter takes on an autonomous and spiritual function. The lesson of American abstract expressionism—filtered through the European eye and Venetian sensitivity to light—merges with the tradition of Italian tonal color, creating an original balance between instinct and measure.
Contrary to the conceptual trends of the time, which aimed to deny manuality and painting itself, Matino firmly asserts the centrality of the canvas and the pictorial gesture. Together with other young abstract artists, he reaffirms the 'purity' of painting as an autonomous and necessary language, highlighting the expressive potential of traditional materials. His choice is ethical and poetic: color becomes a place of resistance and freedom, a vibrant field of inner forces and luminous resonances.
After living and working for several years between Milan and Nice, he moved to the French city where he continued to explore light as a fundamental principle of painting, engaging in a constant dialogue between memory, vision, and silence.
