A WMF silver-plated Art Nouveau dressing-table mirror by Albert Mayer, Germany, dating to 1900–1910 and titled The First Cuckoo, with external dimensions 37 × 28 cm (internal 24 × 17 cm), back with original mirror and easel, in good condition with minor age-related wear.
Description from the seller
Superb Art Nouveau figural dressing-table mirror by WMF, depicting a young woman listening to the first cuckoo of spring. The frame is richly modelled with organic foliate scrolls and asymmetrical lines, typical of WMF’s celebrated Jugendstil production.
Executed in silver-plated alpacca with fine detail and soft sculptural modelling. The back retains its original mirror glass and easel support.
Condition
Very good antique condition – minor age-related wear to the plating consistent with use; mirror glass showing light spotting. No structural damage or repairs. Silver plating remains bright.
Hallmarks / Marks:
-WMF ostrich emblem within diamond cartouche
-“I/O” mark for normal silver-plate thickness
-Internal model number (where visible)

Produced by WMF, Germany’s foremost Art Nouveau metalware manufacturer, and illustrated in the 1906 WMF export catalogue (model no. 108A / “The First Cuckoo”).
