Aart Glansdorp (1903-1989)
He was educated at the Academy of Visual Arts and Technical Sciences in Rotterdam, as a student of Alexander van Maasdijk and Herman Mees. During the day, he worked at Jaap Gidding's and in the evenings, he attended school, where he associated with, among others, Adriaan van der Plas, Hendrik Chabot, and Pieter den Besten. Glansdorp won the silver medal for drawing at the Academy in 1920, and completed his studies in 1923. Glansdorp drew and painted with oil and watercolors, including figure representations, portraits, still lifes, and animal scenes. He received the Royal Subsidy for Free Painting three times (1922-1924), won the silver medal for painting at the Prix de Rome in 1925, and received the Willink van Collen Prize in the same year. Later, he was also honored with the Thérèse van Duyl-Schwartze Prize (1926) and the Vrouwe Vigelius Prize (1932). Scheen describes him as 'an important artist.' He was friends with Clement Bezemer.
At his farewell as a teacher in January 1967, he received the medal of the Leuve, one of the medals of the Rotterdam Art Foundation, and was appointed as an honorary member of the Academy. In April 1967, he was made a knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau.
Oil paint on (portrait) linen (see photos) in good condition for its age, with light craquelure, recently cleaned and coated with a new layer of varnish. Canvas size 45.2 x 80.5 cm. Equipped with a new frame, which is also provided free of charge with the artwork within the EU; outside the EU, it is available at no cost or upon request.
