Waterman two‑piece Red Ripple / Woodgrain set in resin with gold plating, comprising a Waterman’s 52 1/2 V fountain pen and a matching pencil, both in good used condition and fully functional with a 106 mm length and 9.5 mm diameter pen body.
Description from the seller
This elegant Waterman's set in Red Ripple / Woodgrain finish is in very good overall condition for its age, maintaining both its aesthetic appeal and structural integrity. Both instruments display the iconic reddish ebonite with black veins, a hallmark material of the brand during the 1920s–1930s, which shows a remarkable preservation of the ripple pattern and a warm shine characteristic of well-maintained pieces.
Waterman's 52 1/2 V fountain pen
The pen features a compact and fine body, free of visible cracks or fractures, maintaining the original conical shape without deformations. The loading lever functions correctly, is operated firmly, and remains aligned with the body, indicating an intact mechanism.
The 14K gold nib, with well-defined engraving, retains its tip in good condition and shows no signs of excessive wear. The ebonite feed maintains its geometry without damage, but it should be noted that the feed is not a key factor in the performance of these classic models.
The marks engraved on the body, including Waterman's Ideal and the reference 52 1/2 V, remain clear and perfectly legible.
Waterman's mechanical pencil is part of a set.
The mechanical pencil aesthetically complements the pen with the same ripple material, showcasing uniform veins and a glossy surface.
The winding system operates smoothly, extending and retracting the nib without resistance. The nozzle and metallic rings have a well-preserved gold finish, with minimal wear associated with moderate use. The clip maintains its original shape and tension, with no deformation.
General observations
Absence of cracks or structural damages in both instruments.
Very well-preserved ripple finish, with an intense color and uniform veining.
Clean metallic components, shiny with minimal surface wear.
Aesthetically harmonious set, ideal for both use and collection.
Conclusion
It is an authentic, attractive, and fully functional piece, representative of Waterman's craftsmanship in the 1920s. Its preservation makes it a standout item for collectors of ebonite ripple or vintage writing enthusiasts. The presence of both elements forming a set enhances its historical and collectible value.
It will be sent in a courtesy box for proper preservation.
