Description of the work
The painting depicts a lively battle scene between knights, set in a broad hilly landscape. The composition unfolds horizontally, with a dense tangle of equestrian figures arranged in the foreground, captured at the climax of the clash.
The horses, depicted in dynamic torsions and complex perspectives, form the visual focal point of the scene; the knights, armed with lances and swords, are rendered with loose and synthetic brushstrokes, more attentive to movement than to detailed facial features. Flapping cloaks, plumes, and banners — particularly a red drape on the right — introduce chromatic accents that guide the overall reading of the composition.
In the background, a vast atmospheric landscape opens up, with sloping hills and a fortified city barely hinted at on the horizon, immersed in twilight light. The sky occupies a large portion of the painting surface, characterized by elongated clouds and blended tones that contribute to creating spatial depth and dramatic tension.
Artwork examined by an expert restorer and cataloged by an expert in ancient artworks.
Condition report: opera in good conservation condition with signs of age and previous restorations - re-inlaid.
Data on the importance of the work will be sent exclusively with secure packaging and insured shipping based on the estimated value.
