Swan Leverless fountain pen made by Mabie Todd & Co Ltd in the United Kingdom, with a brown celluloid body, 14k nib size 4, 133 mm long and 13 mm in diameter, dating from the early 20th century and in good used condition with minor age-related imperfections; the leverless mechanism functions smoothly.
Description from the seller
This elegant Swan Leverless, manufactured by Mabie Todd & Co. Ltd. (England), is in a very attractive condition for its age and retains all the essential elements that characterize the leverless models of the 30s–40s.
The dark brown celluloid body retains a deep, uniform shine, with the grain pattern well defined. The original manufacturer’s engraving — sharp, deep, and fully legible — adds value by demonstrating that the piece has not undergone aggressive polishing. The three gold bands on the cap maintain their shape and continuity, with superficial wear consistent with age.
The gold clip, with the characteristic Swan motif, shows visible wear of the plating but retains its firm and functional structure, fitting correctly into the cap. There is no looseness or deformation.
The Leverless system responds correctly: the turn of the posterior end is smooth, without blockages, and the mechanism properly actuates the internal pressure of the bag (the bag should be considered a consumable and may require replacement for intensive use).
The 14-karat nib (size 4) is one of the most prominent features of the piece: it retains its original shape, without deformations, with the engravings perfectly defined. The tip shows minimal wear, typical of a well-maintained but used pen. The original ebonite feed is complete, with no fractures.
It shows no cracks, fissures, or deformations in the body or cap, which is especially valuable in this series, known for being sensitive to impacts and thermal stress.
Overall, it is a complete pen, aesthetically very well preserved and totally authentic, ideal for both collection and occasional use with minimal pocket check.
It will be sent in a courtesy box for proper preservation.
