Original edition, copy of the unnumbered print on Marais vellum.
Illustrated in the first volume: with 18 black-and-white reproductions outside the text and 12 cards; in the second volume: with 26 black-and-white reproductions and 4 cards.
A fine copy bound in two volumes of fine craftsmanship, in full black ebony morocco, with the spine featuring raised bands highlighted with gold lines, the title in gilt letters, and an inner roll.
In very good condition. Sunned spine and minor scuffs at the corners and headbands. Interior fresh and clean, not trimmed, with some foxing on the edges and rare spots within the text. A creased card.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Allied armies, engaged on the front since 1914, was determined to record his actions and reflections before disappearing. This work is essential for understanding the conflict.
