Description from the seller
Rare and magnificent collection photograph by the famous photographer Ansel Adams depicting Jeffrey's pine, an iconic tree in Yosemite Park.
About the work
Jeffrey's Pine is a species of pine native to North America. This specimen, photographed by Ansel ADAMS around 1940 with an 8" x 10" camera, was located at the top of Sentinel Dome, one of the summits of the Sierra Nevada in Yosemite National Park.
In fact, it is also the second highest point in the park, swept by the winds, which makes the resilience of this pine tree surprising.
This pine tree owed its distinctive shape to the climatic conditions of the area. It had very little soil and was subjected to the attack of the most violent winds. Through his photograph, Ansel ADAMS shows both the fragility of nature and its extreme resilience. The result is an image with Japanese-inspired accents, reminiscent of a print in some aspects and of bonsai art.
