Description of the work
"Velléité de cerf-volant" is a work created by Robert Detheux in the late 1970s, a significant period of his paper production.
This oil painting demonstrates great expressive intensity and a confident mastery of the pictorial material, here exploited in a style that is both sober and deeply evocative.
Detheux's approach is characterized by a tension between presence and erasure, where the figure seems to emerge and then dissolve into space. The contrasting treatment of surfaces, as well as the use of allusive forms, convey a sensitive reflection on the fragility of being and the instability of the human condition. The title, 'Velléité de cerf-volant,' suggests an inner dynamic, made up of thwarted momentum and suspended movement, recurring in the artist's work during this period.
The work is offered unframed, with the workshop stamp affixed to the back visible, serving as proof of its authenticity and direct provenance. It is a significant testament to the visual research conducted by Detheux at the end of the 1970s and fully reflects his personal artistic language, at the crossroads of lyrical abstraction and internalized figuration.
