Los-Angeles-based contemporary artist Paul McCarthy (not to be confused with singer and song writer Paul McCartney of the Beatles) shows his latest charitable efforts with a series of PROPO series skateboard decks. In collaboration with The Skateroom, the ten piece McCarthy PROPO designed skate decks features masks, bottles, pans, uniforms, dolls, stuffed animals and etc. The PROPO series is unique in that “between 1972 and 1983, McCarthy did a series of performances and these objects were either left behind or they were collected and stored in suitcases and trunks to be used in future performances. Further more, in 1991, McCharthy opened the suitcases and trunks and photographed each item. The group of photographs in their entirety was titled PROPO” and the objects along with the suitcases were exhibited as sculptures. The Skateroom aims to empower children through skateboarding and art and with each set sold, all proceeds will benefit international NGO Skateistan, a skateboarding and cultural center for the underprivileged children in Johannesburg, South Africa. The limited edition decks are numbered, and limited to 250 pieces for each design.
