Beautiful Pelikan 400 Fountain Pen with Tortoiseshell barrel and Brown cap and turning knob. Optical in very good condition. Small loss of the gilding on the top and end of the clip, and of the capring. There is a minor vertical hairline crack (length nearly 12 mm.) in the lacquer of the cap (see pic. 13, 14). The Fountain Pen has been cleaned ultrasonically and the barrel is completely clear inside. The filling system is in good operational condition, but the seal does not fit tight inside the barrel, so it leaks at the rear end, once it has been filled. For optimal use the seal should be replaced. No imprints in the gilded capband which indicates that it is an early example of this 400 model. Imprint in the barrel-end beneath the turning knob: 'Günther Wagner - Pelikan'. Imprint in the turning knob near the end of the barrel: 'M'. No personal engravings in neither barrel nor cap. Imprint in the solid gold nib: 'PELIKAN (+logo) 14C-585 KM'. It is a very smooth writer. The Fountain Pen comes in a beautiful brown leather pen pouch with a handwritten address inside.
