SOME GENERAL INFORMATIONS: Nils Strinning (1917–2006) was a Swedish architect and designer who became internationally renowned for his contribution to modern Scandinavian design. He is best known as the creator of the iconic String shelving system, developed with his wife Kajsa in 1949 for a design competition organized by Swedish publisher Bonnier. The String shelf — lightweight, modular, easy to ship and assemble — quickly became a functional design classic and remains one of Sweden’s most recognizable exports, earning a gold medal at the Milan Triennale and winning numerous awards. Strinning’s work laid important foundations for the principles of Scandinavian Modern design and continues to influence contemporary furniture design.
