Ultra rare CERTINA Certronic Chronometer – vintage Swiss – tuning fork - 1972 + original Certina box and battery Description: For sale is a unique and collectible Certina Certronic Chronometer, one of the most interesting Swiss watches from the late 1960s / early 1970s, featuring tuning fork technology. The watch is fully functional – it runs smoothly and produces the characteristic gentle “humming” sound, typical for this type of movement (a hallmark of this technology). Movement: tuning fork technology Inside is the caliber: Certina 29-151 (ESA) This is a tuning fork movement, something between a traditional mechanical watch and a quartz: instead of a balance wheel, it uses a metal tuning fork vibrating at ~300 Hz - electromagnetically driven (coils visible in the movement) - provides a smooth sweeping seconds hand (no ticking) - very high accuracy for its time This technology was popularized by Bulova Accutron, and Certina used it in their Certronic models.
