Patricia Lee Smith (nata il 30 dicembre 1946) è una cantante, cantautrice, poetessa, pittrice, autrice e fotografa statunitense. Il suo album di debutto del 1975 Horses l’ha resa un membro influente del movimento punk rock basato a New York. Smith ha fuso rock e poesia nel suo lavoro. Nel 1978, la sua canzone più conosciuta, "Because the Night", co-scritta con Bruce Springsteen, raggiunse la posizione 13 nella Billboard Hot 100 e la quinta nella UK Singles Chart.

Nel 2005, Smith fu nominata Commendatore dell’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres dal Ministero della Cultura francese. Nel 2007, fu introdotta nella Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Nell’ novembre 2010, Smith vinse il National Book Award per la sua memoir Just Kids, scritta per mantenere una promessa fatta a Robert Mapplethorpe, suo lungo partner. È al 47º posto nella classifica dei 100 Greatest Artists of All Time di Rolling Stone pubblicata nel 2010 e nel 2011 le è stato conferito il Polar Music Prize.
