The book brings together contributions from leading Spanish writers and intellectuals in exile, such as Rafael Alberti, Jorge Semprún, Max Aub, José Herrera Petere, Wenceslao Roces, Blas de Otero, María Teresa León, Marcos Ana, Ismael de la Serna, and many others.

– Original lithograph by Pablo Picasso as frontispiece (Asturias, Cramer 851; Mourlot 398; Bloch 1182; Reus 398), printed by Fernand Chenot on Vélin d’Arches.
– further lithographs specially created for this edition by Spanish artists including Manuel Rivera, Eduardo Arroyo, Antoni Clavé, Antonio Saura, José Caballero, Simón Segura, Juan Genovés, Rafael Canogar, Antonio Gamoneda, Ramón Gaya, Juan Barjola, Juan Antonio Aguirre, Antonio Saenz, Luis Seoane, Rafael Alberti, and many others.
