Beschrijving van de verkoper
Interesting lot of 12 antique magic lantern glass slides featuring colorful humorous and folkloric scenes. These slides were originally used with a magic lantern projector for entertainment and educational shows in the late 19th and early 20th century.
Each slide shows lively scenes from everyday life, including village festivities, parades, circus or comic scenes, dancing figures and other amusing situations. The images are finely printed and hand-coloured, mounted between glass plates and framed.
These types of slides were popular visual entertainment before the development of cinema and were widely produced in Europe, particularly in Germany, around the turn of the century.
The bright colours and detailed illustrations give a charming insight into popular culture of that period.
Number of slides: 12
Material: glass with hand-coloured prints
Width: approx. 25 cm each
Origin: Germany / Europe
Period: circa 1890–1910
Condition: signs of age such as small stains, spots and minor wear consistent with age and use. Please see the photos for a good impression of the condition.
A very decorative and collectible set for collectors of magic lantern slides, early projection devices and pre-cinema optical entertainment.
