Beschrijving van de verkoper
Ceremonial Delft pottery wine jug with Amsterdam coat of arms, presented in its original wooden ceremonial chest with engraved historical plates.
The jug is hand-painted and decorated with the Amsterdam coat of arms (three St. Andrew’s crosses) and the Latin wine mottos “In Vino Veritas” and “In Vino Gaudium”. The decoration also includes a historical figure holding a drinking cup.
The wooden presentation chest contains engraved brass plates documenting gatherings and locations between 1960 and 1996, including Breukelen, Amsterdam, Breda, Eindhoven, Antwerp, Lochem and Huizen. This suggests the object was used ceremonially within a society, guild or wine brotherhood.
Ceremonial Delft sets with documented historical gatherings and original presentation chests are rarely encountered on the market.

The jug shows glaze crazing typical for its age and a small chip on one handle. Minor interior wear. The wooden chest shows normal signs of use.
Dimensions jug: approx. 24 cm height.
Period: second half of the 20th century
Origin: Netherlands
