English Arts & Crafts Armchair with Rush Seat – Oak – 1870–1910

Description:
An authentic English armchair in the Arts & Crafts tradition, dating from circa 1870–1910. Crafted from solid oak, the chair features a characteristic ladder-back design with three shaped horizontal splats and elegantly turned front supports.

The seat is handwoven from natural rush, forming a traditional envelope pattern, typical of late 19th – early 20th century rural craftsmanship. The weaving shows natural aging and patina consistent with its age, enhancing its authenticity and charm.

The structure is robust and stable, with visible hand-turned elements and traditional joinery. The armrests are gently curved, providing both comfort and a refined silhouette.

This piece reflects the simplicity and honesty of materials associated with the English Arts & Crafts movement.

Condition:
Good antique condition. Signs of wear consistent with age and use. Minor surface wear and patina on the wood. The rush seat shows aging but remains functional.

Material:
Solid oak, natural rush

Origin:
England

Period:
1870–1910
