Good impression on wove paper. Two figures in the foreground on front of some mature oaks. Member of a very large family of Italian artists from near lake Lugano; settled in Munich in the late 18th century; specialised in scene painting for theatres; trained by his father and brother; 1808 appointed to Court Painter for Architectural Scenery; 1818 resigned his position in the court theatre to devote himself to painting; 1829 he was commissioned by Crown Prince Maximilian of Bavaria to reconstruct the ruined castle of Hohenschwangau; became a member of the Academies in Munich and Berlin and was one of the founders of the Munich Kunstverein in 1823.
