With the new and limited edition Don Papa Port Cask, the Bleeding Heart Rum Company wants to honor the navigator Ferdinand Magellan. 500 years ago, during what would later become the first circumnavigation of the globe, the Portuguese sailor sailing under the Spanish flag discovered the Philippines for Europeans. The distillery, located on the Philippine island of Negros, first aged this rum, made from the molasses of local sugar cane in a column still, for two years in ex-bourbon barrels and then for another five years in ex-port wine barrels. The entire seven-year aging process took place in the climate of the nearby Mount Kanlaon volcano. Successor to 2021.
Produced in small batches on the island of Negros, Don Papa Port Quincentennial embodies the Don Papa distillery's pursuit of excellence. Inspired by Ferdinand Magellan's first circumnavigation of the globe, this second anniversary edition builds on the success of the 2021 vintage. The composition combines seven years of aged rums that benefit from the unique volcanic climate of Mount Kanlaon before maturing for two years in bourbon barrels and five years in ruby port barrels. This double maturation gives the rum an exceptional aromatic richness with notes of licorice, spices, and caramel. This lush and full-bodied rum is a perfect example of the balance between tradition, daring, and elegance, embodying the essence of the Don Papa craft distillery.
