Gueorgui Pinkhassov - Nordmeer - 2006

Renowned for his photobook Sightwalk, Magnum photographer Georgi Pinkhassov known for his work with the film director Andrei Tarkovsky, has been called a magician of light and colour. For this amazing book, he made an extensive documentation of the Arctic Ocean, making eight visits to the Arctic Circle, including the fjords of Norway, the settlements of the Nenets people in Russia, the glaciers of Greenland, the northern part of Canada, the Russian naval base in Murmansk and the Nordkapp in winter. This is a captivating photobook that depicts the daily lives of people living in extremely cold areas, as well as the harshness and beauty of nature through the expression of light and color. Despite its geographical proximity, the Arctic Ocean is full of exoticism and mystery. Hostile cold, eternal ice, glaring bright summer nights and deep darkness in winter create magic and danger, hardships and challenges in an unfathomable vastness and elemental force. Gueorgui Pinkhassov, Russian and member of the highly renowned photo agency Magnum, traveled to the far north a total of eight times exclusively for mare. He took the mail ship to the Norwegian fjords, visited the Nenets in the eternal Russian ice, traveled to the calving glaciers of East Greenland, to the north of Canada, to the Russian Arctic Fleet in Murmansk and to the taxi driver at the wintry North Cape. Whether it's Norwegian fishermen or Russian submarine soldiers - Pinkhassov brings us closer to the Norwegian Sea in an unexpected way with his famous shimmering and bright colour impressions. A kaleidoscope full of light, adventure, vast nature and alien life. This book was awarded the Deutscher Fotobuchpreis in 2006 and 2007. Condition: Very good first edition copy of this rare book. Dent to lower corner and creasing to all pages. Some small wrinkles to laminate on dust jacket. Small amount of age related yellowing to pages in places. Please examine listing photos carefully.
