Dogon statue with arms raised, originating from the cliffs of Bandiagara in Mali, embody a profound spiritual and cosmogonical dimension. Carved in dense wood, these figures are distinguished by their emblematic posture: arms stretched toward the sky, symbolizing a prayer, an invocation or a communication with the deities and ancestors. Their stylistic features, often angular, and their elongated bodies reflect an aesthetic that is both restrained and expressive.

These statues play a central role in rituals related to fertility, the protection of harvests or funeral ceremonies. They often represent mythical ancestors, such as the Nommo, divine beings and founders of Dogon culture. Placed on altars or used during masked dances, they serve as intermediaries between humans and the invisible world, reinforcing social cohesion and the transmission of traditional knowledge.
