Zhuang Hong Yi (born 1962) is a contemporary artist originally from Sichuan, China, who is now based in Amsterdam. He studied at the Sichuan College of Fine Arts before moving to Europe.
He is best known for his unique floral artworks made from thousands of small pieces of folded rice paper. These are carefully arranged and painted to create rich, textured surfaces that sit between painting and sculpture. A special feature of his work is the way the colors shift when viewed from different angles, giving the pieces a dynamic, almost changing appearance.
His art combines influences from traditional Chinese culture—especially themes of nature, harmony, and balance—with contemporary Western techniques. The flower motifs often symbolize beauty, growth, and the passage of time.
Zhuang Hong Yi’s work has been exhibited internationally and is collected worldwide. His distinctive style makes his pieces both visually striking and highly recognizable in contemporary art.
