Jose ben Halafta (2nd cen.) - Seder Olam - 1859-1865

Hebrew Classics of the Jewish Religion Important and rare edition 5 Books in 1 volume, 19th century binding 1. Seder Olam Rabbah (Hebrew: סדר עולם רבה, "The Great Order of the World") is a 2nd-century CE Hebrew language chronology detailing the dates of biblical events from creation to Alexander the Great's conquest of Persia. It adds no stories beyond what is in the biblical text, and addresses such questions as the age of Isaac at his binding and the number of years that Joshua led the Israelites. Tradition considers it to have been written about 160 CE by Jose ben Halafta. It comprises 30 chapters, split into 3 parts. 2. Seder Olam Zutta Seder Olam Zutta (Hebrew: סדר עולם זוטא‎) is an anonymous chronicle from 803 CE, called "Zuta" (= "smaller," or "younger") to distinguish it from the older Seder Olam Rabbah. This work is based upon, and to a certain extent completes and continues, the older aforementioned chronicle. It consists of two main parts: the first, comprising about three-fifths of the whole, deals with the chronology of the 50 generations from Adam to Jehoiakim, king of Judah (who, according to this chronicle, was the first of the Babylonian exilarch), the second deals with 39 generations of exilarchs, beginning with Jehoiachin and going until the 9th century CE. Usually printed (as here) together with Sedeer Olam Rabbah. 3. Seder Hakabbala is a medieval period compilation authored by Ra'avad (Rabbi Abraham ibn David) summarising Jewish Historic traditional heritage. 4. Igeres HaRamBam is a historic letter for the ages writtem by Miamonides to his son, in regard to challenges to the Jewish religion in his day. 5. Jonath Illem, originally part of a larger publication, Assarah Ma'amaroth authored by Rabbi Menachem Azariah of Fano, also a distinguished middle-ages luminary, is an ethical guide for the ages, based on Judaic Sources and Jewish values, printed 1859 by L Labbin, Lemberg. A very desireable Hebrew volume in nice condition Rare.
