Oil on canvas, mounted on board, with an estate stamp lower right: NACHLASS H. WILT.
A second estate stamp appears on the back of the painting.
Dimensions of painting alone: 40,5 x 53,5 cm, with frame included: 50,5 x 63 cm. Condition report: painting in fairly good condition but would probably gain from a professional cleaning.
Hans Wilt, Austrian landscape painter born 1867 in Vienna, died in the same city in 1917.
Wilt began his training with the scenic painter Johann Kautsky and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna from 1886 to 1891 under the supervision of landscape painter Eduard Peithner von Lichtenfels. In 1892, he received an honorary diploma at the watercolor exhibition in Dresden. Thanks to a scholarship from the Academy, he spent 1893 and 1894 studying in Rome. From 1890 to 1899, he participated in the annual exhibitions in Vienna. He won a bronze medal at the 1900 Paris Exposition. From 1900 to 1910, he worked in the Netherlands. In 1904, three of his works were exhibited at the Louisiana Purchase Exposition in St. Louis.
