unknown - Quranic Manuscript Page - Seljuk Turkey - 1080
This is a very ancient manuscript page from the Seljuk era, almost a millennia ago and is of Turkish origin. It bears all the the hallmarks of the era's celebrated calligraphic school: bold, flowing Eastern Kufic transitioning to Naskh script, characteristic gold roundel verse markings and a distinctive warm toned laid paper. Folios from this period are scarce and highly valued by collectors and Museums.
The folio contains scripture from Surah Al-An'am (Chapter 6, The Cattle) v.68-71, a Meccan revelation. The text opens with the command to turn away from those who mock divine speech, and closes with a warning against those that abandon God's guidance. The focus is on the Islamic principles of distancing oneself from mockery of divine signs, remaining steadfast upon pure monotheism, and recognizing that ultimate guidance belongs to Allah.
The condition is classified as 'fair' because there is water staining to the folio and repairs with archival paper on the rear. However, for a manuscript 975 years old, it has been preserved remarkably well.
