Histoire du peuple d’Israël by the French historian and philologist Ernest Renan is actually a five-volume monumental work published between 1887 and 1893. It was published in Paris by Calmann-Lévy and served as the historical prelude to his highly famous Histoire des Origines du Christianisme (History of the Origins of Christianity). Volume 1 (1887): Covers the nomadic roots of the Beni-Israel up to their definitive settlement in Canaan. Volume 2 (1889): Focuses on the establishment of the Monarchy, from the reign of King David to the capture of Samaria. Volume 3 (1891): Explores the prophetic era from King Hezekiah through the Babylonian exile. Volume 4 (1893): Examines the period under Persian rule up to the arrival of Greek Hellenistic influence.
