Born in Charleston, South Carolina, he studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and gained international attention through his Obey Giant campaign, which began in 1989 with the iconic “Andre the Giant Has a Posse” sticker. His work combines graphic design, political activism, and public art, often addressing themes such as social justice, environmental issues, and human rights.
Fairey achieved worldwide recognition in 2008 with his HOPE poster for Barack Obama’s presidential campaign, one of the most iconic political images of the 21st century. He has created murals, prints, and installations across the globe, helping to legitimize street art within contemporary fine art. His major achievements include international museum exhibitions, the global success of the Obey movement, and his lasting influence on contemporary graphic and urban art.
