Dinu Corina - "The Architecture of Time" - XL
I work with a palette knife — almost exclusively. The knife builds paint the way a mason builds stone: layer over layer, each one visible, each one permanent. The canvas is heavyweight 390 g/m² cotton, chosen because it holds the impasto without yielding. This painting demanded more than paint alone. The gold leaf came first — applied directly to the cotton canvas before anything else, raw and uneven, the way gold behaves when it doesn't want to be controlled. Everything built on top of it carries that warmth underneath, even where it has been covered.
The Architecture of Time is structured as a gothic arched window divided into panels — each one its own world, its own fragment of time. Clock faces appear and reappear throughout the composition: some complete, some broken into quarters, some dissolved into pure geometry. Roman numerals, gears, spirals, mechanical ornament — the vocabulary of timekeeping pressed into wet acrylic, scratched through layers, stencilled, drawn freehand. No two panels read the same way twice.
The arched window is not a window into somewhere else. It is a map of time itself — the way hours accumulate, overlap, contradict each other. The gold ground holds everything together the way memory holds fragments of experience: imperfectly, luminously, permanently.
The black contour lines define the structure the way lead defines stained glass — without them, the colour would dissolve. With them, each panel becomes a complete thought.
