"Le Silence de Bovary" settles into the kind of quiet that only exists when a woman has forgotten she is being seen. She sits deep in a burgundy velvet bergère with her legs folded beneath her, Flaubert's Madame Bovary open between her hands, her eyes travelling a page she has read before but never quite like this, never in this particular morning light, never with this particular silence around her. Her body is bare and she has not noticed because Flaubert is more interesting than clothing right now and the morning has not yet asked her to be anything other than a reader. A cat has climbed onto the armrest and placed one paw on the open page with the absolute certainty of a creature that believes it is more important than any novel ever written. She does not push it away. She does not look up. The interruption has become part of the reading the way a cat always becomes part of whatever you were doing before it arrived. Through the lace curtains the light enters soft and pale and falls across her shoulders and the velvet and the book and the cat's paw without distinguishing between any of them, because light does not read and does not know that some of these things are more important than others. The polished wood and the heavy fabric and the stillness of the room belong to a century that believed a woman reading alone was either improving herself or ruining herself, and Flaubert wrote the novel about exactly that question. She is not improving herself. She is not ruining herself. She is simply reading. The cat does not care which.
The artwork explores themes such as the intimate dialogue between reader and novel, the cat as an interruption that reveals the depth of absorption rather than breaking it, the female body at rest as a space of intellect rather than display, and the enduring irony of reading Madame Bovary in exactly the kind of silence Emma Bovary spent the entire novel trying to escape.
T. Pimenta is a Portuguese artist whose commitment to creating visually striking artworks seeks to develop pieces capable of establishing visual presence and emotional connection with viewers and collectors.
The creative process begins with an initial conceptual construction, where the central narrative and emotional direction of the composition are defined. Subsequently, the artistic vision is developed through Adobe tools, digital construction processes and the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), adding depth, texture, light and structural refinement.
His approach combines traditional artistic sensibilities with contemporary digital techniques, allowing the exploration of different visual languages and the continuous expansion of creative possibilities.
Each artwork additionally receives a manual finishing intervention through an individual hand-applied artistic varnishing process, designed to reinforce luminosity, visual depth and material presence.
