Justine Joseph (1971-) - Now in tubs frontal, cyanotype from original negative

Now in Tubs – Frontal Study with Ferns Unique Cyanotype by Justine Joseph Created from an original negative by Michael Joseph Original photograph: Now in Tubs advertising campaign, mid-1980s Created: 2026, Dordogne, France Process: Handmade cyanotype with botanical fern impressions, contact-printed in sunlight Support: Upcycled vintage photographic paper from Michael Joseph’s personal photographic library, over 40 years old Presentation: Unframed Edition: Unique work – one only Photography, foliage and forty years of history meet in this unique, sun-made work. Created by Michael Joseph’s daughter from one of his original archive negatives, this cyanotype reimagines his Now in Tubs advertising photograph more than four decades later. The image is printed on a surviving sheet of vintage photographic paper from Michael Joseph’s own library. Its discolourations, stains, small creases and surface irregularities have deliberately been retained: paper, process and patina become part of the picture. Contact-printed in sunlight using the nineteenth-century cyanotype process, the pale central figure is surrounded by hand-painted Prussian blue and delicate impressions of real fern fronds. The result moves between figure and foliage, photograph and painting, past and present. Sunlight, chemistry and the ageing photographic surface create shifting tones of Prussian blue, cyan and turquoise, making this piece impossible to reproduce exactly. The reverse, bearing Justine Joseph’s studio label, also reveals the paper’s considerable signs of age and previous life. Rather than being restored or concealed, these traces form part of the work’s provenance — an original material from Michael Joseph’s photographic world given a new life by his daughter. Photograph by Michael Joseph. Cyanotype interpretation by Justine Joseph. Paper from Michael Joseph’s original photographic library. Important condition note This work is intentionally created on photographic paper over 40 years old and therefore displays significant age-related discolouration, staining, marks, small creases and other irregularities, particularly on the reverse. Please examine all photographs carefully before bidding. The frame shown in some photographs is for presentation only and is NOT included. The artwork is sold unframed. Unique, one-of-one handmade cyanotype • Michael Joseph original archive negative • 40+ year-old paper from his photographic library • Real fern impressions • Traditional cyanotype process • Created and sun-printed by Justine Joseph in Dordogne. Old paper. Original negative. New interpretation. Sunlight gives them another life. #MichaelJoseph #JustineJoseph #Cyanotype #AlternativePhotography #PrussianBlue #VintagePhotographicPaper #BotanicalCyanotype #MichaelJosephArchive #AnaloguePhotography #NowInTubs #PhotographicArt
