DESCRIPTION:
This original work by Ralf Altrieth unfolds a lush universe where figures, sketched characters, signs and abstract shapes intersect in an endless play of lines and colors. Some presences stand out clearly, while others remain half-hidden in the material. The gaze circulates freely, moving from one appearance to another without ever exhausting the richness of the composition.
Between free figuration, instinctive drawing and graphic poetry, the work does not seek to impose a precise reading. It rather allows imagination to establish its own associations.
Through its energy and visual density, it first attracts with its liveliness and colors, then holds the eye with the multitude of details and presences that gradually reveal themselves.
At the boundary between drawing and painting, this work testifies to a language deeply personal to Ralf Altrieth: a free and instinctive creation, where gesture, imagination and material meet without ever losing their spontaneity.
CRITIQUE:
"There is a lot of poetry in this painting, as in all the artist’s works. They are filled with narrative codes and fantastical tales. In this sense, the painterly poems of Ralf Altrieth are a pure childlike chant... But the most astonishing thing that manifests in these paintings is a tender communicative for the states of mind of the human being."
— Dr. Friedhelm Häring, museum director and art historian
"His writing by gesture and color describes a world open to new voices and experiences never attempted. His canvases and works on paper demonstrate that painting remains a major expression of the contemporary scene."
— Laurent Puech, art historian and curator
BIOGRAPHY:
Ralf Altrieth (Heilbronn, 1966) is a Franco-German painter and musician recognized for his expressive and spontaneous universe, at the border of figuration and abstraction. Trained in adolescence with painter Georg Schaible and then at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nürtingen at the end of the 1980s, his work is distinguished by rare pictorial energy and a particularly sensitive language. His works are now held in multiple private collections around the world.
SHIPPING:
The work will be shipped rolled in a sturdy tube to ensure secure transport.
It is entrusted to an express carrier providing home delivery, with full tracking and signature on delivery, to guarantee the best protection of the work until it is handed over in person.
NOTE ABOUT THE MARGINS:
The outer margins of the paper show a few traces related to the removal of masking tape. They are completely normal and appear only on the unpainted areas. They will be masked by the matting if you choose this method, or can be removed by trimming the work from 75 × 105 cm to 70 × 100 cm (see situation visuals). Your local framer will be able to take care of it easily.
Note: The situation images are presentation suggestions made with AI based on photos of the actual work. The photos of the real object are authoritative (the whole work, close-up details and the back signature). Colors may vary slightly depending on your screen color profile.
