Opis od sprzedawcy
A rare 12-piece Austrian Biedermeier fruit cutlery set, made in a Viennese workshop circa 1830, preserved in its original fitted presentation case.
The set consists of six fruit forks and six fruit knives. The hollow, weighted handles are made of 13-loth silver, equivalent to approximately 812/1000 fineness, while the knife blades and fork tines are made of steel.
The handles have a profiled, baluster-shaped form and are richly decorated on both sides with repoussé floral ornament arranged in a symmetrical composition. A multi-petalled flower forms the central motif, surrounded by fleshy scrolling leaves and volutes.
Each handle bears the 13-loth silver mark used in the Austrian Empire and an Austrian imperial double-headed eagle, consistent with Viennese silver of the first half of the 19th century.
The set is preserved in its original fitted bookbinder-made case, covered in embossed orange paper. The interior is fitted with dark blue velvet supports and beige silk. The exterior of the lid is particularly decorative, featuring a central gilt cartouche containing a period lithograph depicting two young women with a rose against a landscape background.
The accompanying professional documentation describes the case itself as an important example of period bookbinding craftsmanship and highlights the exceptional completeness and originality of the ensemble.
Provenance: private family collection.
Total gross weight: 324 g.
Fork length: 15.8 cm.
Knife length: 18 cm.
Condition: very good antique condition, with minimal signs of age and use and wear to the original case consistent with an object dating from circa 1830.
The set is accompanied by professional documentation confirming its attribution to a Viennese workshop, dating, silver standard, condition and provenance.
