Scroll Bijin-ga autorstwa Miyagawa Chōshun, styl Tosa - Miyagawa Chōshun - Japonia - XX wiek
A graceful Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku) depicting a bijin-ga (portrait of a beautiful woman) attributed to Miyagawa Chōshun, painted in the refined Tosa-ha style. Executed in color on paper with delicate brushwork and subtle shading, the artwork captures a poised courtesan in elegant attire, embodying the gentle charm and grace of Edo-period aesthetics. The artist’s signature “Miyagawa Chōshun” and gourd-shaped seal (hyōtan-in) appear on the lower section. Chōshun (1683–1753), founder of the Miyagawa school, was renowned for blending courtly Tosa traditions with the lively realism of ukiyo-e. Mounted with resin roller ends (jushijiku), the scroll radiates both classical refinement and human warmth. A superb example of late Edo bijin-ga, uniting elegance, color harmony, and historical artistry — ideal for collectors of Japanese paintings and Edo-period fine art.
