Soon withdrawn from competition, the CLK-GTR found itself confined to the world of collectors. Starting from December 1998, the manufacturing of the road was started in Affalterbach at the AMG, which was definitively taken over by Mercedes starting from 1 January 1999. At first sight the road CLK-GTR resembled the racing GT, but the aerodynamics were different, as well as the mechanics of course.
