A finely cast Kannon (Avalokiteśvara) figure made of resin, hand-finished, gold colored, and polychromed, depicting the Goddess of Mercy in the Kamakura style, a sculptural idiom inspired by the naturalistic and expressive forms of medieval Japanese Buddhist art.
Kannon is shown with the hands held in the Teaching Mudra (Tenbōrin-in), a gesture associated with the turning of the Wheel of the Dharma and the transmission of Buddhist wisdom. As one of the most revered deities in Japan, Kannon embodies compassion, mercy, and the vow to relieve the suffering of all sentient beings.
The figure is presented with a throne and halo, enhancing its devotional presence.
