Blue and white faience plate with Chinese landscape – France or the Netherlands, late 18th / early 19th century Description °°°°°°°°°°°°°°°° Antique blue and white faience plate, hand-painted with a Chinese-inspired landscape depicting a pagoda, boats, water, trees and birds. This type of decoration belongs to the European Chinoiserie tradition, inspired by Chinese porcelain of the Kangxi period and widely produced by faience workshops in France and the Netherlands during the late 18th and early 19th century. The reverse shows a thick tin-glazed surface with characteristic pinholes and an unglazed footrim, confirming that this piece is faience (tin-glazed earthenware) and not porcelain. Antique blue and white faience plate, hand-painted with a Chinese-inspired landscape depicting a pagoda, boats, water, trees and birds.
