Slight trace of use to binding, contents fine. Final edition of this long-time classic handbook of microscopy of which the first edition appeared in 1854 comprising 513 pages only. The author was a vice-president of the Medical Society of London, and was elected a fellow of the Linnean in 1866. He served as honorary secretary of the Royal Microscopical Society from 1867 to 1872, and he was first president of the Medical Microscopical Society. He was a also prominent freemason.
