A very beautiful first edition (1903) of "The Tailor of Gloucester" by Beatrix Potter (British, 1866 - 1943) - NO RESERVE PRICE First edition, published in 1903 by Frederick Warne and Co., London & New York in London. Hardback with date 1903 to title page. Color pictorial label on front cover, with the endpaper designed repeated four times (Quinby Plate I and Quinby 4; Linder, p. 423). Color frontispiece and 26 color plates, all by the author. Publisher's original brown boards with pictorial cover label, spine and front cover lettered in white. Housed in a colour complementary cardboard box, very good condition. Please see all photos before bidding, the photos are very detailed and comprehensive, showing the true condition of the book. Free of inscriptions. Spine ends and corners a little rubbed and bumped. Small scuffs to spine front and back. Small stains on back board towards upper left corner. Minor to none shelf lean. Good hinge inside, with very small splits upper and lower front endpaper, pages holding together perfectly. Pages clean. No netting exposed. Overall a very good example, a collector's item. 86 pages. Book dimensions are - height: 14,5 cm, length: 11 cm, width: 1.8 cm. Box dimensions are - height: 16 cm, length: 12 cm, width: 3 cm "The Tailor of Gloucester" tells the story of a poor tailor who lives in Gloucester, with his cat. Mice live in his shop as well. The tailor has many little pieces of material and ribbons that he cannot practically use as they are too small. The mice take these and make fine clothes for themselves.
